Large wooden display case containing 'Botany of Australia', as written by Hans Lindau during internment during World War II. The notes are written on 2,500 small pieces of paper, and cover names and descriptions of plants, notes on medicinal uses, and how they are likely to have reached Australia. The case also contains 11 notebooks and 25 Dunlop rubber heel envelopes containing notes and cuttings which appear to have been written during internment. Topics covered include English grammar and phrases, botany, chemistry and pharmacology. Later material included in the case comprises two photographs of Lindau, c.1966; a funeral notice for Margarete Lindau, 1972; letter from Lindau to 'Leo and Irene', 1966, and a copy of Readers' Digest with an article by Cyril Pearl on the Dunera ship, 1973. The fountain pen and ink powder that enabled Lindau to write the notes during internment were provided by the Quakers.
